The programme included a seminar, workshops and visits, promoting outreach and knowledge-transfer activities for the general public that highlight the local history of each geography, committed to the contemporary challenges of art, education and ecology.
The meeting contributed to reflection on relational artistic practices around cotton, disseminating international research projects with fieldwork in Cabo Verde, namely “Curating as a tool: artistic practice and multidisciplinary dialogue of the Neve Insular collective” (Vanessa Monteiro), “Cotton and resistance from Cabo Verde – cultivating thought and artistic practices for a history of the present” (Rita Rainho, i2ADS/FBAUP) and “On a poetics of time: women’s keepsakes as activators of memories” (Beatriz de Sousa, Federal University of Goiás).
In an age when the digital takes up ever more space, devoting time to touch and experiencing a slower pace is, for Neve Insular, essential to sharing some of the know-how around cotton fibre. This experience took shape in workshops led by the Mulheres do Vale group and farmers, both in the fields in Madeiral and at Galeria Alternativa.
