Sub-Projects
A three-year project combining agroforestry, educational and artistic practices to assert sovereignty in textile art & design in Cabo Verde.
“Matriz Têxtil Insular – gestating community sovereignty and designing new futures” (MTI) is a three-year project (2025-2027) that brings together agroforestry, educational and artistic practices to assert sovereignty in textile art & design rooted in craft identity in Cabo Verde.
Through the recovery of the cotton cycle and the reinterpretation of the Pano d’Obra, MTI values ancestral knowledge, strengthens the community of the Calhau and Madeiral Valley, and creates new imaginaries within the Pan-Atlantic textile landscape. By proposing textiles as a contemporary language, the project also asserts itself as a critical practice of resistance and transformation.
